IRS extends Tax Filing Deadline to April 18

Three extra days to get your taxes done!

January 5, 2011

Taxpayers will have three extra days to file their 2010 tax returns and pay any tax due because a holiday observed in the District of Columbia falls on Friday, April 15 this year.

The IRS announced that taxpayers have until Monday, April 18 to file their taxes because of Emancipation Day, which is a holiday observed in the District. By law, the IRS must observe holidays in the District just as it does federal holidays for tax filing purposes.

April 15 is the traditional tax filing deadline, but because the holiday falls on that day, the IRS must push back the deadline until the next business day, which is Monday, April 18.

Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until October 17 to file. Please contact our tax professionals at 877.517.6872 if you have questions about this, or any other tax issues.
