Maryland Tax Free Shopping Periods

First for Clothing and Later for Energy Star Products

Maryland has a one week period for tax-free back-to-school shopping from August 14-20, 2011. This allows shopping for clothing and footwear items with no sales tax added to the purchase, as long as the price of each item is $100 or less. Accessory items are excluded, such as jewelry, watches, handbags, umbrellas, scarves, ties, headbands and belt buckles.

Maryland also has a three day period in February during which purchases of any Energy Star Product listed below is free of sales tax. The next tax free weekend will be February 18-20, 2012.

Energy Star Products included are:

Air conditioner
Clothes washer
Clothes dryer
Furnace
Heat pump
Standard size refrigerator
Compact fluorescent light bulb
Dehumidifier
Programmable thermostat
Boiler
