Maryland Tax Credit for Hiring Unemployed Workers
Take Advantage of Maryland Job Creation Tax Credit Before Year End
October 13, 2010
The Maryland HIRE Job Creation and Recovery Tax Credit Program, which was approved earlier this year, provides a tax credit of up to $5,000 for each unemployed Marylander you hire into a new full-time position, or a full-time position that has been vacant for at least six months. The credit is available for any new hires from March 25, 2010 through December 21, 2010.
A business may claim the credit for up to 50 qualified hires, for a maximum credit of $250,000. If you have any questions, contact Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation representatives directly at 410-767-2996.
To check if your new hire qualifies, go to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation's website at www.dllr.maryland.gov and click on the large blue button. The automated system will determine whether your hire meets the qualifications for the credit and let you know the results in real time. If your new hire is qualified, you will receive written confirmation that you can file with your tax returns next year.
In addition, there are 34 One-Stop Career Centers located throughout Maryland to help connect you with qualified employees who meet your requirements, through the Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE) online marketplace.
All employers are encouraged to consider the Maryland HIRE program if they are hiring new employees this year. For additional information, call the Maryland DLLR at 410-767-2996 or visit the Job Creation and Recovery Tax Credit webpage. |
